Early Access — 10k Beta

Beta access is opening in waves — 25 this week, then 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000, 2500, and 5000. Invites for 500+ are planned for October 2025. Learn more.

Join the free beta via Apple’s TestFlight (iOS) or Google Play Closed Testing (Android). If you’d like to help, you can make an optional $7 contribution to support development. Support is appreciated but does not affect access or timing.

External testing requires Apple’s (or Google’s) beta approval. Testing is free; contributions are optional and refundable within 14 days. Contributions do not grant priority or guaranteed access.

  • Access to pre-release builds via TestFlight (iOS) or Closed Testing (Android) when capacity is available — free to join
  • Early product updates
  • Direct feedback channel (reply to any beta email)

How it works

  1. Join with the free TestFlight link (iOS) or opt in to Closed Testing (Android).
  2. Optionally, support development with a one-time $7 contribution.
  3. We roll out builds in stages as capacity opens.

Some features may appear on iOS first while Android reaches parity.

Support (optional)

$7 one-time contribution to support development.

What your $7 supports: Android finishing work, design polish, and cloud costs during the beta.

✅ Free at Launch: The public Near22 app will be free at release. Supporting now is optional and not required for beta access.

FAQ

How do I find and make friends? No remote requests

Tap Scan to discover people nearby using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Scanning is purely local on your device — we do not hit a server to fetch people around you.

Nearby screen — empty state
Nearby → empty state before scanning.
Nearby screen — scanning and results
Nearby → scanning in progress and results.
Privacy first: discovery happens locally via BLE; nothing is uploaded during scan.

How do I create groups?

  1. Open Groups and tap the + button.
  2. Select members from Nearby results or your Contacts.
  3. Name the group and add a few tags (e.g., Lula lounge, Salsa).

Do I always need Bluetooth (BLE)?

BLE is required for scanning only. Once you connect, chats continue over the normal network like any other app. We don’t keep permanent copies of your messages — they’re intended to be transient and device-local.

What are the benefits of filters in Contacts vs Nearby?

Contacts list with filters and tags
Contacts filters help organize people you’ve already connected with (Known, Blocked, Received, Sent, All), and by type (Personal/Business).
Nearby screen — scanning and results
Nearby filters narrow who appears during scans (All/Personal/Business). No server calls — still 100% local.

How do tags help?

Tags are short labels under profiles and groups (e.g., Stylist, Music lover, Tech lead, Dancer). They’re a lightweight identity layer that preserves anonymity while making it easy to find common ground.

How does anonymity work?

You appear with a nickname and tags — no phone number or real name required. You choose what to share and when to connect.

What happens once I’m connected?

It works like any other chat app over the network, but we keep it minimal: we don’t keep permanent copies of your chats; they’re intended to be transient and device-local.

Example: going to an event

At a conference or concert, open Nearby and scan. You might find a friend you didn’t expect, a DJ tagged “Salsa,” or a local vendor. Connect instantly — no number exchange needed. You can keep chatting later even after you leave.

Can I hide my profile?

Yes — toggle Nearby Visibility anytime. Hidden means you won’t appear in scans, but existing contacts and groups can still reach you.

Will the app cost money when it’s released?

No — the final Near22 app will be free to download and use. You may choose to support development with an optional $7 contribution during the beta, but it’s not required for access.
